Ari Brisbon, a student at Hope High School on Providence’s East Side, has won the state Shakespeare Acting and Recitation competition.
Arts supporters and dedicated ESPEC readers will remember that the theater progam at Hope High was almost killed in the summer of 2006, but was saved at the last minute through the efforts of many supporters. This week, Ari showed us why that was worthwhile.
Brisbon’s performance won out over those of fourteen students from the state’s public and private high schools, including Providence’s Lincoln School, Wheeler & Moses Brown,
As the state winner, Brisbon will be part of a national competition, the winner of which will receive a four-week acting course this summer at the British American Drama Academy, in London. According to the ProJo, “Brisbon, 18, hopes to study theater at the Boston University School of the Arts in the fall”.
Congratulations to Mr. Brisbon, Hope High, and all the students who reached the competition.

Ah, not to be a downer or anything, but the national winner gets to go to London for four weeks, not the RI winner.
Tom Hoffman,
thanks. Correction made in the post. Still, it’s very exciting!
I am proud of you. Keep up the great work.
